アーティストがアートをお高くとまった場所から引きずり下ろし、「日常」を制作に取り入れ始めたのも今や遠い昔の話。以来、現在にいたるまで、アーティストにとって「日常」は、セットになりがちな「境界線」と共に、呪文のように繰り返され、時に飽和状態になり、それでもやはり便利だから使ってしまう、腐れ縁のような言葉です。

しかし、COVID-19の猛威が吹き荒れている今、「日常」は「非日常」へと変容したのではないでしょうか？少なくともアーティストにとって旧来の価値観に基づいた主題としての「日常」は有効性をすっかり失ったように思えます。

このような状況の中、例えそれが「非日常」的な毎日であったとしても、「日常」的に制作を続けること。これこそが今アーティストができる最も当たり前かつ重要な行為です。なぜなら創造を途絶えさせないことによってのみ、アートは時代を映す鏡たり得るからです。

Everyday Art Marketは、アーティストである青山悟が、ささやかなアイデアを日々、即興的に刺繍したシリーズをオンラインで展示し販売するプロジェクトです。激動の世界が落ち着きを取り戻すまでの期間限定。商品はすべて一点ものです。


It was long ago when artists dragged art from their high perches and lowered it to the level where “ordinary” began to be incorporated into the creation process. Since then, “ordinary” together with “border” have become inseparable set of words for the artists, like a repeated spell, and at times made into a state of saturation, yet still end up being used for their convenience.

However, as the ferocity of COVID-19 sweeps over, the “ordinary” has perhaps turned to the “extraordinary.” At least for the artist, the “ordinary” that was set to a theme on traditional value, seems to have completely lost its effectiveness.

In such circumstances, even if each day turns out to be an “extraordinary” day, we must continue to produce under the “ordinary.” This is the most obvious and important thing an artist can accomplish right now. Because art has the possibility to exist as a reflection of the current times but only by keeping the creation alive.

Everyday Art Market is a project where artist AOYAMA Satoru exhibits and sells online a series of impromptu embroideries on modest ideas that he came up with every single day. It is sold for a limited time until the turbulent world regains its composure. All items are sold as one-of-a-kind.


青山悟
1973年東京生まれ。ロンドン・ゴールドスミスカレッジのテキスタイル学科を1998年に卒業、2001年にシカゴ美術館附属美術大学で美術学修士号を取得し、現在は東京を拠点に活動。工業用ミシンを用い、近代化以降、変容し続ける人間性や労働の価値を問い続けながら、刺繍というメディアの枠を拡張させる作品を数々発表している。最近の主な展覧会に「News From Nowhere」（2017年 ミヅマアートギャラリー、東京）、「ヨコハマトリエンナーレ」（2017年　横浜美術館、横浜赤レンガ倉庫１号館他）、「Unfolding: Fabric of Our Life」(2019年Center for Heritage Arts & Textile, 香港)など。

AOYAMA Satoru
Born 1973 in Tokyo. BA in textiles from Goldsmiths College, University of London in 1998; MFA in fiber and material study from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2001. Lives and works in Tokyo. Employing industrial-use sewing machines, Aoyama presents numerous works which expand the frame of the embroidery medium, by questioning the values inherent in humanity and labour within the continuing changes effected by modernization. Some of Aoyama’s recent major exhibits include “News From Nowhere” （Mizuma Art Gallery, Tokyo 2017), "Yokohama Triennale 2017 " (Yokohama Museum of Art, Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse No.1 etc., Kanagawa 2017) , “ESCAPE from the SEA” （National Art gallery, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia 2017）, “Unfolding: Fabric of Our Life” (Center for Heritage Arts & Textile, Hong Kong 2019) etc.
